Can't help but think it's legit, given how Sonic was made to be a Mario rival. Not to mention how Mighty was so alike to Sonic in design. If it is the truth though, I'm more pleased we got Mighty and Ray instead. At least the idea was tested later down the line (i.e. Undegrground).

Mighty was one of the rejected protagonist designs. He's been around just as long if not longer than Sonic. Another reason why his sprites look so similar to Sonic's Sonic 1-2 sprites is because he was originally going to be in KC. Since Mighty is basically armodilo Sonic with a pointy nose aesthetically, the logical and time efficient thing to do would be to perform sprite surgery instead of making new ones altogether.

I know that. I should've added that the red Sonic idea may have changed over time when the designers thought it better to have more creative characters. Once they saw the Mighty design concept lying around, they went with that instead of a simple recolour.

if you read between the lines of the wikia page, you'll notice they say there was a concept for an armadillo character, but it doesn't specify that it was Mighty. because the name and Sonic-like design came later. as that link shows, the original armadillo character looks totally different from the style the franchise is now known for. this link is even sourced on the wikia page :p

Tsk. I only caught the part where it says they reused the armodillo character for SegaSonic. This lead me to believe that Mighty's design's been around for ages.

Yellow Sonic's already exists in the games and comics, he's Super Sonic. Or at the very least this might've sparked the idea for him, as well as the other obvious influence.

Sonic's not allowed to have relatives. They'd have to find a way to shoe horn them into the story without making them directly related to Sonic. The multiverse is still in it's prenatal stages so there's an option.

Oh, here's something interesting before the forum shuts; Kevin Eva was the guy who made the little reference signs in Generations (such as the missing posters, or the billboards). Hey guys um, I didin't want to make a topic for this but I just wanted to say to everyone goodbye and thanks for all the good times on this forum.
