Voice Equip!-Matching Actors to Mega Man Characters

Postby Spectre the Hechidnat » Mon Jun 09, 2014 7:08 pm

So a topic like this has appeared a time or two over in the Sonic section, but I haven't seen one for Mega Man yet, so hopefully I'm not stepping on any toes. The idea is pretty simple: if we were to somehow get an adapt of the Mega Man comic that involved the characters having voices, who would you want to voice what characters?

To be honest, I don't have too many ideas on this myself. The only Mega Man media I've really been exposed to where the characters had voices was NT Warrior, and the differences between the Battle Network and Classic incarnations of various characters-like Mega Man and MegaMan.EXE-makes it so that I don't know if I'd say their voices would make a good fit. Don't get me wrong, I love Andrew Francis and David Kaye's work, but the way they did MegaMan and ProtoMan just doesn't sound right for Rock and Blues, if you know what I mean. I do have one thought:

Xander Payne-Clancy Brown
Perhaps it seems like type-casting, but let's face it-Clancy Brown knows how to play a good villain and has just the voice for it. He's just the type of guy who can say "I'm going to break you in half" and make it sound totally emphatic. As such, I think he's a good fit for our favorite robot-hating terrorist.

I listen to Dr. Light as his Ruby Spears or his Powered up version

Dr. Wily is mostly his Ruby Spears version.

And for guys with official voices, I use their most recent one, usually.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it, you know?

I'm fine with Johnny Young Bosch as Zero...I mean sure it was only in one game but hey...Johnny Young Bosch is awesome.

A lot of the Powered Up VAs come to mind for the original cast for me, although Wily is an original voice in my head, not the scratchy Powered Up or German Ruby Spears one. Also for some reason, I always hear more MM8 Roll when I'm reading the comic.

Since I'm less familiar with Game voice Actors I tend to cast in my mind.

Rock, Dr. Light and Wily I hear the people who voiced them in Archie's preview trailer although I think Dr. Light's actor is the the guy that voiced him in Powered Up?

Guts Man: Patrick Warburton

Blues: Scott Menvill (Or Myself reading his lines out loud in a grumpy voice  )

Tempo: Hynden Walch

Xander Payne: Steven Blum

Krantz: Tara Strong

Stern: Ed Asner

Quick Man: Roger Craig Smith

Those are the most cemented voices I have in my mind.

My current voice cast:

Antony Del Rio as: Mega Man

S. Scott Bullock as: Doctor Wily (I had his voice in my head for awhile, but it took me forever to figure out whose it was)

Fred Tatasciore (using a softer version of his Beast voice) as: Doctor Light

Angie Beers as: Roll (her Powered-Up voice)

David Faustino as: Proto Man

Kirby Morrow as: Elec Man

Tommy James as: Guts Man (his Powered-Up voice)

Danny Cooksey as: Cut Man

Jason Ritter as: Ice Man

Roger Rhodes as: Fire Man (his Powered-Up voice)

Ryan Stockert as: Bomb Man (his Powered-Up voice)

Bumper Robinson as: Oil Man

Jason Spisak as: Time Man, X

Tom Kenny as: Auto

Corey Feldman as: Bass

Mark Hildreth as: Quick Man

Nolan North as: Crash Man

Daran Norris (using his Knock-Out voice) as: Flash Man

Liza Del Mundo as: Quake Woman

Marina Sirtis as: Doctor Lalinde

Phil LaMarr as: Doctor Cossack

Phil Morris as: Pharaoh Man

Ed Asner as: Agent Stern

Masasa Moyo as: Agent Krantz

Crispin Freeman as: Xander Payne

Gary Chalk as: Duo

Johnny Yong Bosch as: Zero

And that's it for now.

Actually just thought of another one Donald "Childish Gambino" Glover as Oil Man.

To me, Dr. Wily sounds an awful lot like JK Simmons, especially as he sounded when voicing Cave Johnson and playing J. Jonah Jameson.

I've usually just pictured myself and friends of mine who've voiced various characters in readouts or productions when reading through the issues. A lot of the people listed so far seem like they'd fit very well, though; never even thought of Donald Glover for Oil Man but I'd see it fitting really well.

I love the proposition for Ed Asner as Stern; he definitely has the needed gruffness. Had another one:

Duo-Peter Cullen
You're looking for someone to voice a large, blue and red robot who is a tireless champion for justice and opponent of evil-can anyone possibly be more qualified for the job than the guy who voices Optimus Prime?

I actually thought of his Prime Co-Star Michael Ironside while reading Worlds Collide.

I think Peter Cullen is the most common response for Duo, but it makes sense. What about Bass? I haven't heard too much about him...perhaps someone along the lines of Troy Baker?

I brought up Sean Astin as Bass in another thread.

Basically picture his voice for Rapheal in the Nick version of TMNT but slightly more deep and cocky.

I hear Todd Haberkorn as a good Time Man. Pretty much the only voice actor I'd have for a Mega Man character, everyone else are original voices or tweaked versions of a previous voice incarnation.

My younger sister also hears Peter Cullen as Duo. I like it, it definitely works, but I personally prefer a different Optimus for Duo: Gary Chalk.
