Mega May (Game spoilers)

Postby Mavrickindigo » Sun May 11, 2014 8:13 am

Mega May has been upon us with 3 games released so far, so why don't we talk about what we think about them? For a lot of us, its our first time. I know I had a lot of surprises with MMII and III.

Mega Man Xtreme- I played this one as a young-un, but never tried Hard mode without continuing from normal mode until this time around, and holy crap was it hard. Playing through Normal then to hard is a bit boring, as you have all the upgrades and weapons at your disposal to make minced meat out of the Mavericks. That and the story is quite bland and repetitive and doesn't explain a few key things.

Mega Man II- I can tell that someone else made this game. It's a lot easier than Wily's Revenge, and mean a lot easier, but there are many moments that are just designed bad. i don't think you can navigate air man's stage without dieing. I like how you choose which wily stage you go to instead of having a pre-determined order. Quint was as underwhelming as I thought, though he did have a bit of a surprise in the fact that he had to be hit at a certain point. That ending cutscene was bonkers, though. I want to see how Ian Justifies Mega Man shooting Wily down out of space and causing the poor guy to crash through the atmosphere into the planet.

Mega Man III - Music and graphics in this are amazing compared to Wily's Revenge and II. I've beaten 3 robot masters and I'm surprised how a game from 92 could beat Xtreme in the sound department. Music isn't affected by charged shots and all of the enemies and stuff just seem clearer. There's also much more animation than even the NES counterpart in the stages I've seen so far!

Well, if only I could actually GET on the Virtual Shop on my freaking DS.... I'd love to get all of the Dr Wily's Revenge games and the X-Treme games.

Did they do anything to remap the buttons for xtreme? I neither own a 3DS nor have a reason to rebuy the games, but it'd be nice to dash with shoulder buttons for a change. D:

Seeing these games makes me wish the eshop will put snes games on the 3ds. I really want to play the original Mega Man X and Mega Man 7.

I've play a couple Mega Man games from eshop and I'll might get extreme and one of the other Mega Man's.

Ha! That's not even on the regular VCs yet. Mega Man 6 somehow became a mini-miracle by showing up on 3DS after being absent from the Wii.

Mega Man 7 not on Wii U's Virtual Console?! I guess that means it's highly unlikey that it will be on the 3ds if Nintendo decides to put snes games on the 3ds. (which also seems unlikely as well.)

Hoping Mega Man fans out there definitely pick up the final two Game Boy games. I would imagine IV will be releasing this Thursday since they've been doing the GB ones in order. It's my personal favorite, even if V's roster was all-new. Have to give the edge to IV for introducing the shop feature to the series. Plus, I just love the first boss music, the Mega Man Killer they introduce, and the whole setup to the final battle.

Hey, I have a question, is Mega Man X-streme and it's sequel worth downloading? From what I've seen so far, they kind of look like they're just ports of Megaman X and X2.

Xtreme 1? You more or less got it in one. There is a little bit of unique content there, including the story and the characters in it, but most if not all of the levels are pretty much ported from X1 and X2, yeah. There are four unique characters, two of which are bosses, and if you're looking for new material, that's basically what you get.

Xtreme 2, on the other hand, is a bit more like the Classic series Game Boy games. While many of the bosses/stages are brought back from all three SNES X games, you start with X taking on four bosses, Zero taking on four bosses (which he didn't get to before, only becoming fully playable as of X4). Then I think there's a "full" mode where you can play as either Hunter and take on all eight bosses, plus fan favorites Berkana and Gareth as part of a new storyline which features Iris as the Hunters' Navigator prior to the events of X4.

As a Mega Man fan who had to play pretty much everything Mega Man for every bit of minutiae I could get to further explore the world, I was happy enough with Xtreme back in the day. As a consumer who needs to consider where he puts his money nowadays, I'm passing on Xtreme, but I'll be getting Xtreme 2 (even though I own both in their original forms already).

Of course, the fact I never finished Xtreme 2 plays into that a little bit.

X-treme is fun from a technical standpoint, seeing how they ported X1 and X2 to the GBC. The new content is interesting comic fodder, but pretty boring in their own right.

Anyway beat Mega Man III, and I must say that I love it. that first boss in the first wily stage caught me completely off guard, also the music is great. The game is also really, really tough. Like legitimately difficult in most places, but there are a few unfair parts (that jump in Spark man's stage after the first trash dump thing comes to mind)

@Nytetrayn & Mavrick
Thanks for your responses. I think I may pass on X-treme 1 and download the second one. It sounds more fun & I'm a tad low on cash for games.

Mega Man 4 is very unforgiving. 2 checkpoints per level and all the levels are hard! There are some genuinely difficult prats and definite occasions of "artificial difficulty" though compared to the first gameboy game, it seems to have more genuine challenge to it.

That people that did I and III really figured out what they were doing as they went along, as evidenced by IV and V. Those latter two GB titles hold up with quite a few console entries. It's a shame that the handheld stuff kind of died after that for awhile, but to be honest, I stopped buying them as a kid with II. Guess it's on me! Whatever happened to the people that did that one anyway?

But yeah, the Xtreme stuff never did anything for me and felt like X was getting the shaft again when you compare his two GBC games to the final two GB games and the Zero series.
