Mighty No. 9 is an all-new Japanese side-scrolling action game that takes the best aspects of the 8- and 16-bit era classics you know and love, and transforms them with modern tech, fresh mechanics, and fan input into something fresh and amazing!
You play as Beck, the 9th in a line of powerful robots, and the only one not infected by a mysterious computer virus that has caused mechanized creatures the world over to go berserk. Run, jump, blast, and transform your way through six stages (or more, via stretch goals) you can tackle in any order you choose, using weapons and abilities stolen from your enemies to take down your fellow Mighty Number robots and confront the final evil that threatens the planet!


Every aspect of development—art, level design, music, programming, etc.—is being handled by veteran Japanese game creators with extensive experience in the genre, and with Mega Man in particular, all the way up to and including the project’s leader, Keiji Inafune himself! Backers will have unprecedented access to seeing this team at work through blogs, podcasts, videos, concept art—the works!
Mighty No. 9 is being developed for the PC with gamepad support (of course!), and will be made available through Steam and DRM-free digital distribution methods. Other platforms, including home consoles, Mac, and Linux, are a high priority, but only if we can afford them via stretch goals. Should we reach those goals, anyone funding the project will be allowed to choose which version of the game they would like to receive. The estimated release date is spring 2015.

In 50 minutes this project has raised $45,000. Incredible doesn't even begin to describe it.

Darn it. I wanted to make this topic. >_<

I don't see why it's not legal. It's definitely Mega Man inspired. But it's not a copy/paste. If anything, it's a homage to the Blue Bomber. I guess Capcom could maybe try to raise a stink over it if they were feeling petty, but I don't think they'd have any real ground to stand on. (Though considering how certain other lawsuits have turned out, nothing really surprises me these days.)

I think this actually looks pretty cool, even if it is just a little too obvious that Inafune is just trying to make a new Mega Man without it actually being Mega Man. I mean, c'mon, Beck and Call?

It's probably pretty safe to say this will definitely make it to the goal. I hope it makes it to the stretch goals so it can come out on consoles. Although...2,500,000 is an awful lot to ask for on that account.

Isn't this Super Rock Man Adventure in terms of story elements?

Alongside throwing some element from other MM games as well.

I'd say it's a playful homage to the original Mega Man, with different elements.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand it's already passed 100,000. :shock:

Sheesh. That's crazy. I might back this myself, if it gets really close to the stretch goal for consoles.

Haha, I find myself already thinking about what it would be like for Mega Man to meet Number 9. 8)

Tomorrow I'll bump up my pledge. This project needs to succeed.

EDIT: and on another note this kickstarter is making $50,000 an hour. This will be fully funded in less than a day, and probably completely funded for all stretch goals within the week.

I wonder if there is any chance that Archie could produce the comic adaptation of this game.

I'm throwing my hat in immediately. I will draw the heck out of Mighty Number 9! And that adorable blonde girl in the previews!!!
