I thought the third game would just be a port of the Sonic 1 re-release.

I would find the former unlikely. Sumo wanted to put Mario in All Stars Racing Transformed, but SEGA told them the Mario/Sonic thing was exclusively an olympics thing

Aye, but that was before the partnership. Not saying it's happening by any stretch, just that there's technically nothing stopping it from happening.

putting mario in a sega game =/= putting sonic in a nintendo game. different things there. Plus Pac-Man is in the the arcade mario kart game so I wouldn't doubt it if sonic doesn't get to be in the next mario kart or keep his place in the smash roster. I kinda wish that Nintendo would do away with the exclusivity of just mario characters in the kart racer, I'd love to see samus, link, captain falcon, olimar out there on the track.

Except the same exact mentality of "we can never agree on the type of adventure they should be on together" that stopped them every other time they thought of something that wasn't Olympics.

Brawl was an amazing exception to the rule

Eh, I kinda doubt that. Nintendo's current mentality is "minimal story, minimal rocking the boat". And since it's unfortunately been pretty successful Sega have been following suit ever since Colors. I hope they break free of the boring old formula, but with Nintendo involved I half expect them to have Amy be kidnapped by Dr. Eggman!

But enough doom and gloom. The screen shot is very interesting. Perhaps what we are seeing is the hub world? And all the little hexagons are little levels? It'll be good to test out how the game mechanics of Sonic translate to my Wii U, they've fixed the gameplay for the last few games, lets see that translate to two screens.

first screenshot, courtesy of NoA. They said Nintendo partnered with Sega on this one.

Also d you think this means the end of PC versions of Sonic games? :(

That looks like the board game, you know that one with the hexagone spaces or was it cards? But it makes a map or you makea map or something?

Anyway I hope all of those pieces end up being levels in the game, had anyone figured out how many of those things would there have to be to make a whole planet?

That hexagonal world has me very intrigued.

It's not likely, but I hope this game's story has some amount of depth to it.

Waitaminute...does this mean that the 3rd game could still be a storybook title?

Great, us Xbox users are going to miss out again. Oh well, as long as the handheld versions are decent, I guess.

Hard to really comment on Lost Worlds from that one screenshot, that planet looks neat though.

Best. Idea. EVER.

I guess you'll just have to console yourself with your copy of Sonic Generations, Sonic CD, and Sonic 4: Episode 2. ;P
