Regarding Alabaster

Postby jprime » Tue May 14, 2013 2:01 pm

Those of you who've read the Characters page of the site are probably familiar with this closing passage: "Despite being (at least partially) a Bat herself, and having borne a Bat for a daughter, Alabaster has nothing but disdain for the race." Does this sound familiar to anyone else? I came up with a parallel almost immediately: Uncle Ruckus from The Boondocks.

For those unfamiliar, Uncle Ruckus is a (very) black old man who hates everyone and everything relating to his own race, stemming from deep-rooted self-loathing. And that's exactly what I see in Alabaster before the comic even starts. She hates herself for being modeled after Reeno and projects that onto all other such beings.

So there you have it. Whenever the comic finally starts and we get to see all the action and strife, prominently featuring brave youths fighting off bloodthirsty psychopaths who'd otherwise be living happy, peaceful lives and locked in high-security prisons, respectively, know that it's all because one ageless C-word couldn't learn to love herself, which, incidentally, is the opposite of most villains' motivations, namely that they love themselves too much.
