Howdy folks! Tis the season to be giving, and I just got the editorial go-ahead to drop some tasty next year tidbits!
Yeah, I said I was going to wait until the "Iron Dominion Saga" was finished, but by then a lot of what I want to reveal would already be out in solicits, so what the heck.
BE ADVISED!!! None of this is set in stone. Most of it is just planned, and not much is written. At any point SEGA may veto a story idea or we may have to shuffle things around for some reason. So take all this with a grain of salt. Here's hoping everything goes according to plan.
And now, on with the merciless teasing!
SONIC THE HEDGEHOG
- the "Iron Dominion Saga" will be ending in 2010 with a cross-over in Sonic Universe.
- it will also mark the end of the "epic dramas" for a while. We just had "Enerjak: Reborn," "A Bold, New Moebius" and now "Iron Dominion." It's time for us to do some smaller stories.
- I had so much fun bringing back the Downunda Freedom Fighters in "Echoes of the Past" that I decided to bring back another old FF group. And then another. And then another!
- I also figured it was about time to bring back an old major villain. Only fair, right?
- While we're bringing back folks, we'll be seeing some SegaSonic guest stars return to the book - Silver and Big!
- And a final note: it's about time Bunnie had some solid backstory, don't you think?
SONIC UNIVERSE
- three arcs for the year, just like this one.
- "Journey to the East" will be part of the finale to "Iron Dominion." It will NOT be required reading for the arc. You can enjoy it on its own, and you can enjoy STH by itself. Together, though, you'll get the fullest story.
- It's about time we spent some time with a good ol' Tails, don'cha think? Let him do something cool. A "Tails Adventure," if you will.
- There are characters and subplots we're introducing this year / very beginning of 2010 that will come to fruition in the next end-of-year Knuckles arc. See? I'm planning way in advance.
And that's it! Happy Holidays, and enjoy your tantalization!

I hope that old major villain is fat, large, has a cybernetic left arm and likes to scream "I hate that Hedgehog!" At the top of his lungs. Other than him I can't think of anyone else who fits the bill.

Ixis Naugus? He hasn't been seen in a large commodity for a LOOOONG time.
The rest of this is SO EXCITING. Especially Tails Adventure and the shorter stories; no offense, but I'm starting to get burnt out on these long epics. |

Fingers crossed and duly noted. We know how you like to be the one to deliver teasers/spoilers every now and again.

To be honest, that sounds about right for the ID saga. I'm loving it, and it's a great chance for world building, but I'm not surprised things would sort of wrap up around #212-ish. Don't want them to over stay their welcome.
And yeah, I'd definitely welcome some shorter stories. They're a nice change of pace, and I think it's about time the book went back to some shorter stories for a while. Again, don't get me wrong, I've loved all the arcs listed, but some shorter arcs are welcome.

I'm Pleased to hear you loved writing the DUFFs. =D I've been looking forward to them coming back for a while now, and I hope we get a chance to see them again down the road (hopefully not after an extremely long break). Anyway, great to hear more FF groups! Wolf Pack has been pretty much confirmed, and same with the Arctic FFs. As for the last one, maybe the FFs in Mercia or the Sand Blast FFs?
Major villain! Naugus maybe? No one else comes to mind immediately.

BIG! I'm so happy to hear that, it's been far too long. XD It'll be nice to see some of Silver too, so I'm definitely glad to hear we'll be seeing more of them.

Some fans have wanted something for a while, I'll be curious to see what happens.

All right, so #212 basically will be the end of the ID arc for the time being. I'm guessing per Sega's preference Eggman will reclaim his empire at the end of the ordeal.
Looking forward to "Journey to the East", this one in particular should provide great world building in the DK and it should be a great chance to focus on the Brides and Clans.

And another Knuckles arc already lined up! So we've got our 3 arcs for next year already! Great to hear you're having fun writing for Knux.
Also, I'm elated to hear about a Tails' Adventure. He's long over due for an arc of his own! Maybe we'll be seeing some of the (BattleBird) Armada story develop around then..

Wow, I'm excited. These teasers seem to be saying "Ixis Naugus" and "Battlebird Armada" and that makes me very happy.
Bunnie backstory is excellent. Thank you so much, Ian.
I just realized that Bunnie might be my favorite character. Weird?
As for the other FFs, we've got the Wolf Pack, Forty Fathoms, Arctic, and Substitute to choose from, unless I'm missing someone. |

I wonder if this means that the Iron Dominion Arc will end with either StH 213, SU 16, or StH 214. Anyway it goes to should be interesting.
Anyways breaking down what Ian said for the next few SU arcs into actual issues.
SU 13-16: "Journey to the East"
SU 17-20 "Tails Adventure"
SU 21-24 "Knuckles the Echidna"
This should be interesting.
And why does everyone seem to think that the returning villain is Nagus? The last time he showed up was when Mogul escaped from prison in StH-186. That's only 20 issues ago, closer to 30 by the time this arc is done. It could be any of the old major villains making a comeback if Ian so wishes.

As awesome as it is that we'll see more Tails/other freedom fighters/ an old villian/ect, I'm most excited about Bunnie's developement. The poor girl's been needing one for a looooong time now!
Hope your ideas set well with Sega, Ian! This is sounding really intriguing so far!
