[Ian Flynn]

Alrighty! I just got the go ahead to drop some tasty tidbits your way.

First off, let's talk about artists. We've got a few of 'em, and they're all awesome.

You like Steve Butler? Of course you do. He's doing the lead story for STH#202.

We've got a new-comer named Jamal Peppers and he'll be tackling most of the back-ups. I've seen his work, and I'm very happy with what he's producing. He's definitely an exciting up-and-comer in the book.

Tracy Yardley isn't going anywhere. He's more-or-less the visionary for Sonic Universe - covers and interiors.

Oh, and some guy called "Spaz" will be doing most of the covers for STH#203 onward. I haven't seen his stuff, but I hear he's okay. We'll see.

Ah, but what about the stories? We're obviously heading into some new territory here, but just what's going to happen?

"Iron Dominion" is going to dominate the book for the foreseeable future. It has a planned end, but we're really devoting ourselves to it. We're doing a ton of world-building here; creating viable heroes and villains to return to in the distant future.

As seen, Monkey Khan will be returning. Yes, I'm taking a gamble in bringing back one of the least favorite characters, but I made it my mission to flesh him out and make him - if not likable - then respectable.

Folks have been puzzling over how the Iron King / Iron Queen / Snively dynamic is going to work. Rest assured that it will be spelled out clearly and quickly.

Who is "Coolie-Hat-Maybe-Rabbit-Lynx Girl?" Some folks are already pretty close. She ties directly into the the meaning behind "Bride of Four Houses" and will prove to be a pivotal character in a pre-established character's life.

By the end of "The Iron Dominion," we'll have a much clearer idea on what the Dragon Kingdom is and how its societies are laid out.

When you look at the top tier villains - Robotnik, Mogul, Finitevus, Naugus - you'll note a serious lack of female persuasion. Just like I'm making Monkey Khan a viable hero, this arc is set to make Iron Queen a viable villain. By the end of this, I want her to be considered on the same level as the "big boys."

NINJAS! Everyone likes ninjas, right?

We haven't seen the last of the good doctor. There will be a story that makes Sonic face what he's created. It'll be a surprisingly light-hearted encounter on the surface (remember: kids' book), but I think you guys will be able to see the subtle, richer subtext. You'll see.

And while you guys can usually brainstorm a lot of my thinking - which is no fair, y'all outnumber me - I really think there will be some reveals and happenings that will catch you off-guard.

As for Sonic Universe . . . it's hard not to give everything away. So I'll just toss some points at you and let you muse over them:
- new character is coming unrelated to "The Iron Dominion"
- partial origin story for someone close to Knuckles
- the return of a Freedom Fighter group
- a duel that's been a long time in coming

I think that's enough to stoke the fires for the year. Enjoy!

-Looking forward to seeing a new artist on the book. Unfortunately, unlike many of the latest artists, Jamal doesn't seem to have much of a presence on the internet, so it looks like no sneak previews of his style.
-Even though I don't like Spaz's work as much as I used to, it'll be nice having him back doing covers. I'm glad Tracy still will be doing covers for SU.
-It'll be a nice change of pace having a brand new force dominating the book. I'm sure you have plenty of awesome stories up your sleeve.
-Return of a Freedom Fighter group, eh? Downunda, anyone?
-Really anxious to see who will be duking it out in the future.

It's nice to see Spaz and Tracy splitting the cover duties now. Like many, I grew up with the Sonic covers by Spaz, but I also appreicate some of the covers Tracy has done as well. (Like SU #4)

I wonder if the origin story has to do with Espio or Julie-Su. I remember there being a blurb about Espio back-up story, but I could have sworn I also heard the SU story revolving Knuckles had something to do with Julie-Su and her parents.

Given the FCBD issue, the returning FF group has got to be Downunda.

The duel may very well be Julie-su vs. Lien-da given that mention about exploring her family a bit.

Someone close to Knuckles is probably Espio. I'm thinking it's about how he became a ninja during Sonic's time in space.

Spaz on covers and Butler on interiors!!! Yay!!! Now we just need Spaz to do interiors again once in a while.

Ian, any chance for more depiction detailing for a certain group mentioned in another thread?

Woo-hoo! Spaz is back! And I can't wait to see the new guy's art. And of course Tracy and Steve Butler. It'll be nice to see a change in pace with the villains... and villainness now I suppose. And societies and dragons and rabbit-whatsit! And Ninjas! New character in SU! Origin story! Duel! *faints*

It all sounds very exciting, but I'm a little disappointed that Sonic Universe is Tracy Yardley's main book, rather than STH, because he absolutely nailed how the comic should look. I'd rather see him drawing the main Sonic stories than the spin-offs. But we shall see.

I think Tracy should stay as the main artist (also covers) of Sonic Universe, seem as though Ian has created the series himself, it should stay with those two. Just like Ken Penders and Manny Galan on Knuckles series. But i would love to see him come back now and again for STH, but STEVEN BUTLER IS BACK! and SPAZ! returning for the covers, TOP-CLASS ARTISTS!

I glad that STH is bringing back the some classical artists back and newcomers, and possibly let them take in turns with different, like the old days and other publishers (DC and Marvel), instead of just one.

I can guess that the person that the duel in SU will be between Knuckles and Dr Finitevus seen as though he was the one that caused his father's death and he hasn't appeared since last January. Ian did promise to bring back Dr Fin back.

Interested to see the Iron Dominion and the Dragon Kingdom being developed. About time actually. Like to see how Iron Queen interacts with other villains, especially Dmitri, Mogul, Naugus, Dr Finitevus, and Scourge (possibly). Wait and see.
