I liked this issue. I was a tad disappointed that not as much happened as I would have expected. I'm assuming that all of this was meant as build-up for the next issue, but I thought at least a bit more would happen. Namely: The reveal of Regina! I curse the cover, it really got my hopes up. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind waiting a tad longer, but I honestly thought we'd see her at least arrive in this issue!

Anyway, I loved how Snively acted throughout the issue. A bit of his racism had shown through here. I found it interesting that Dimitri and Lien-Da called him "Sir". I'm beginning to wonder if they really will start to work for him after this is all over (whether it be their choice or not). Snively's plan is going somewhat like how I expected it to, with a bit of a twist (I didn't figure he'd actually try to stop the rest of Sonic's group). Oh also, I like his new cape, very fitting for him. He seems fairly confident that this is the end of the Eggman empire. I have a feeling he might be right, but we'll see if he's right in due time.

I'll hand it to Ian, for those who like nostalgia, they'll love this issue. This one covers a lot of peoples past relationships, experiences, and feelings about what has happened to them in the past. I loved Julie and Vector snarking at each other, and then looking at each other a bit surprised after they saved each other, and their reactions afterward. Quite a few references to StH #50, seems the heroes had a bit of a nostalgia trip to. Wink Also nice to see Espio and Mighty admire Charmy, Saffron, and Ray saving them.

Eggman's new mech surprises me. I was expecting something a tad different, though it's still fairly impressive looking. I like the bumper on it, and I'm curious just how well the Egg Spider will be able to fend Sonic off.

A tiny nitpick, Ray's stutter seems to have vanished in this issue. I guess he didn't really talk enough to exhibit it.

Overall, I thought it was an enjoyable issue. It gave us a nice look at characters reactions and feeling towards one another among other things. There was some development between characters too, which was nice to see. For those who complain about to much action, I think they'll quite enjoy this issue. For those who like the action, there is still a fair amount of action too. The nostalgia factor was nice, a real trip. I think some new readers might be a tad confused by some things (namely Sally referencing her "Death"). It wasn't to bad though, and I thought Ian kept it fairly easy to understand for new readers, while giving long time readers a nice nostalgic feel. The stage is officially set, and we're in for a big fight and hopefully a big reveal in the next issue. I'd give this issue an 8.5/10.

Man, this issue had a nice helping of fanservice. Made me smile.

Also, a giant frakin' spider. Always a good idea.

This is the only picture you'll get out of me is of Robotnik's new war mech.

Probably Egg Tarantula or Egg Widow. How feminine.

Design is nice and retro. Note the star bumper on the abdomen and the speed grooves on the side; reminiscent of the design on the side of his Egg-O-matic Hovercraft ( AoStH design most particularly.)

Unfortunately I won't get so see it sink it's giant fangs into Sonic's skull and wrap it up on a web and save the leavings later. Tarantulas are notorious for that; eating "rodents" as Robotnik likes to call the Blue Blur.

Now speaking of the barrier trap that Robotnik designed to only let one animal in at a time seems familiar to some of the dens that tarantulas make. Tarantula dens are lined with webbing and are narrow to capture wayward prey.

Kind of like a woman who brings her date back to her place. Again, how feminine. Wink

I kid.

Now to note some of the things in this issue:

First off, this is the first issue I noticed Ray the Flying Squirrel have his bangs in a "cockscomb" like Tails instead of his usual cowlick. I dunno if this is the first issue where this stylized appendage has appeared, but it's the first that I took notice of it.

Sally makes fun of her "death" from STH #50 to Bunnie. Tails mentions being a prisoner in the same issue. in fact, there's a whole lotta nods to STH # 50.

Espio and Mighty are saved by the trio of Charmy, Ray, and Saffron.

Snively dons a yellow cape (do you think he got it imported from the Mushroom Kingdom?) like the original Robotnik while preparing his takeover. Also he wears his prized cologne that he received from his girlfriend's area of the region. Kommissar Lien-Da complains about it. (Well it's better than what animals rub all over themselves when they
want to attract a mate.)

(Then again. You should see what goes into Musk cologne.)

Snively lets a hint of his specism show through. It seems that he's capable of being just as bad as his original uncle; Julian. Perhaps the yellow cape signifies the transformation from 'little meek snoot" into "raging megalomanical psycho." Enjoy your new boyfriend, mystery woman.

Knuckles stands up to his uncle Dimitri. Julie-Su and Knuckles agree on that "as long they (Dark Legion) are working for Eggman they see no problem to take them out."

After wrenching his way through the barricade, Sonic notices that the Dark Egg legion has saluted him on the way to Robotnik. He notes this as odd (Gee, you think?)

I was noting that this barrier might not just be a trap for Sonic, but Robotnik as well. Snively seems to plan his way around the whole attack for his chance to take over. Hence, the room where they are about to duel might be rigged or something in general, like the mech itself. The clue can be picked up upon when Snively wants to "See the last moments of the Eggman Empire."

The issue overall was O.K. Not fairly mind-blowing or terrible. I was expecting the revealing of Needlenose's squeeze, but she will more than likely arrive with the next. Needless to say, they are saving their big guns for the next issue. The only thing you will obtain with this is a heaping dose of nostalgia if you read most of the previous comics. I wasn't all too impressed with this issue, but if you love it , then go ahead and shout it from the rooftops.

Also Matt Herms' colouring is just great. I would like to see him become more of a regular in this comic.

Since the cat is out of the bag and it doesn't spoil anything I guess I can say this much.

It is indeed called the Egg Tarantula. It's the same very unfinished device that Eggman was still roughly cobbling together in the backup of Sonic 194. But you could only make out the tiniest part of it there (IE the very top). I wasn't really sure what the final version would look like outside of a small basic picture I had so the one I drew looked different than the final design in terms of the legs and abdomen (plus it was all colored gray). Personally, I think Tracy's and Matt's final design of it came out to be really freakin' awesome. Smile

Enjoy the wait for 200!

EDIT For Red King: As Lea said, if the thread has spoilers in the title, then expect spoilers. You don't want spoilers once the book has come out don't look a thread titled spoilers. Then you won't get spoiled. "P So no complaints about getting spoiled in the thread people.

Aaaaaaaaaah, I see it now, I thought Snively was in some type of attic or something. I know we were wondering what the heck the red stuff. (hearty laughter) It ended up being silly string, who knew? Looks messy anyway.

Maybe one of them should call Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs. Cleaning the sticky red gunk from a holding tank of an Egg Tarantula would be a new one for him.

I thought that might be the Egg Phoenix back in #194, very interesting what it really was. Here I thought Eggman just finished the Egg Tarantula really quick, apparently he's been toying with the Egg Tarantula for a while now. Now that I look at it again, it actually does look a bit more like a tarantula.

Reading issue.......

Scanning for errors.........

Reading complete! ISSUE CONTAINS ZERO ERRORS!

Seriously! This is like, the perfect issue. I could not find anything to complain about and loved every page! Every little moment is great! The talking about the past. Vector and Julie-Su's little moment. The Bees and Ray saving Espio and Mighty. Everyone's worrisome goodbye's to Sonic. The last splash page for the final countdown. The art. The coloring. The dialogue. The action. The fact that the action and large amount of dialogue and character development flowed so well into each other. It's absolutely perfect!!

OVERALL 10/10 - A flawless issue with tons of fan service. Do not miss! Very Happy

Now onto making the character review. This time with five princesses. Wink

BREEP!!!BREEP!!!BREEP!!!BREEP!!!! Error within document assessment. Subject Dimitri's claim to period of longevity parallels records of Angel Island's duration of low planetary surface orbit since ascension. Continuity flaw mandates re-evaluation of editorial staff's review methods.

Wouldn't it mostly make sense for him to be that age anyway?

Oh wait, never mind. I got my echidna history mixed up, and thought he was as old as the island's flying, thinking he was involved in it. Man this stuff is confusing...

Guardians are old, old farts. It's hard to keep track of their age.

Not if you keep on top of all the lore.

Timeline:
-Angel Island ascends into the sky thanks to Jordann and Kayla-La; the great-great grandparents of Edmund and Dimitri (approximately 550/600 years ago)
-Dimitri + Edmund propose to return the island to the planet surface. Council rejects it, Dimitri uses the syphon himself and is buried alive (approx. 400 years ago)
-Steppenwolf banishes the Dark Legion and its founder Menniker (Dimitri's son) to exile in the Twilight Zone (approx. 350 - 300 years ago)
-Hawking saves Echidnaopolis from Dingo nuclear strike and sends the island's inhabitants to pocket zones (approx. 200 years ago)
-Tobor is replaced by Moritori Rex (approx. 175 years ago)
-Years pass on with a new Guardian for each generation: Spectre, Sojourner, Thunderhawk, Janelle-Li, Athair, Sabre, Locke, Knuckles.

And that's my history lesson. Dates are rough approximations based off data files and dialogue and guesses of age.
